Kids....Ferrets... and Cleaners!! :0

It all started bright and early this morning, I had just fallen asleep when Brian burst into the room with a soaking wet Jayda in his arms, telling me that Cameran has been spraying the Ferrets with carpet cleaner. Panicked and surprised, I jumped out of bed and grabbed Jayda and ran to the bath tub to wash her off. Brian headed back upstairs to get Taz and brought him down too. I spent quite a while washing off my poor little frightened ferrets with Brian standing over my shoulder as nervous as me making sure they were ok. Next matter of buisness was to talk to the 3 year old little girl waiting upstairs...... Well obviously we are not parents year round so this was quite hard for us. Brian had told her what she did wrong and taken all the chemicals and put them away up high so she couldnt reach them. When I walked up the stairs to talk to her she looked so sad and a little bit scared. (the scared look tore my heart out!) So trying to regain my composure I made sure I didnt look mad and asked Cameran to come over and talk to me. Gosh that was the hardest talk I have ever had to have with her. She felt so so bad for what she had done but at the same time Brian and I both knew it was partially our faults too. We have a spray that we use on the ferrets to make them smell all nice and fresh, and use on them daily. Cameran had seen us spraying them down a couple times, so to her she wasnt doing anything wrong. Unfortunately she ended up picking up the carpet cleaner instead of the ferret freshner.
Well onto the ferrets..... they seemed to be doing ok after they were all washed and dryed off, until about an hour later when I noticed Jayda standing with her eyes half closed and kinda losing her balance. We put the ferrets in their cage in hopes of them sleeping and feeling a little bit better. I ended up heading back to bed ( i had just come off a graveyard shift) and slept until about 4. When I got up I went to check on the ferrets too see if they were still doing ok. Unfortunately they were not. They both wouldnt open their eyes all the way and did not want to wake up. Brians parents came over to visit and that was when I absolutely broke down bawling. Thank goodness Lisa was there, she is such a great help!! We called the vet and he told me that the ferrets had probably been poisoned from the cleaner getting in through their eyes and mouth. He told me that there was a good chance that it could be fatal to both of them and to keep a close eye on them for 24 hours. He said to make sure they were eating and drinking and hopefully it would metabolize and move out of their systems. Again thank goodness Lisa was there!!! (she is wonderful:))
We have been getting them out once an hour and making them at least drink water. They have been very droopy and still having problems with their eyes. They can still see though. I walked into the room once and Jayda was eating, and Taz had just had a good dose of water so that was a good sign. Brian called me at work just a little while ago and said that he got them out and they were very active and wanting to play so hopefully that stays the same also and they have gotten all that stuff outta their system. :)
That was our HUGE lesson for the week!!!

Poor little guys, I am glad they are doing better. That would be a hard situation to handle, but it sounded like you did a good job.

Wow, you had quite the experience!! I hope they continue to get better, poor little things. Usually 3 year olds have the best intentions, and are not malicious in their acts. I try to remember that when my kids do something crazy. Good luck!

Glad that your little pets survived their ordeal. Good job handling your little girl. I'm sure that how kind you were to her will have a lasting impression on her now and for many years to come. Great parenting!!
